Today is also Mothering Sunday, and so we greet Mother Winsome specially on this day, giving thanks for her unstinting and tireless giving of herself for us. It is also Refreshment or Mid-Lent Sunday, and so we show a creature of God taking refreshment in our garden! Today’s Gospel is the story of the Prodigal Son, with a passage from St Paul as the New Testament reading. Here is part of it: ‘If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation’. It is a perfect comment on the Gospel reading, for in His Son we are fully reconciled to God, like the son with his loving Father in the parable. May God bless your Sunday, and may we take to heart the admonition to reconcile others to God as we have been reconciled.
