‘For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. But be glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy’. Even as we approach the Passion, there is a note of joy and the welcoming of new life, as this extract from our Old Testament reading shows. Here is the fulfilment of the prophecy, in the Apocalypse: ‘Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband’. It’s as though we are to keep our eyes on the final destination, as we come near to the Passion: to hold in our hearts where it is all leading.

May God bless you and keep you close to His Heart this day and always.
