Tension is now building towards the Passion of our Lord. In our Old Testament reading, we see it clearly prefigured in this extract: ‘“Let us test him [the righteous man] with insult and torture, that we may find out how gentle he is, and make trial of his forbearance. Let us condemn him to a shameful death, for, according to what he says, he will be protected”. Thus they reasoned, but they were led astray, for their wickedness blinded them, and they did not know the secret purposes of God, nor hope for the wages of holiness, nor discern the prize for blameless souls’. They did not know, they did not hope, they did not discern.
May we truly come to know Him who is the Light of the world, and put all our hope in Him, discerning the joy that awaits us as did Jesus ‘who, for the joy that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of God’.
May God bless you this day.
