Here is part of today’s Gospel reading, from St John, after the feeding of the five thousand: ‘Do not labour for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of man will give to you; for on him has God the Father set his seal.” Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”’

Jesus would later say, in the great High Priestly Prayer: ‘This is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent’.

And St John himself would later write: ‘So we know and believe the love God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him’.  Both knowing and believing are held together in the love of God, which surrounds us and is in us at all times and in all places. May God keep you, and bless you this day.
