Today is also the optional commemoration of St Christopher Magallanes, Priest, and his companions. St Christopher was a Mexican priest, arrested on 21 May 1927 whilst on his way to celebrate Mass. Without a trial, and having given away his possessions to his executioners, he gave them all absolution before he was martyred. His last known words were, ‘I am innocent and I die innocent. I forgive with all my heart those responsible for my death, and I ask God that the shedding of my blood serve the peace of our divided Mexico’. He was canonised by Pope (now saint) John Paul II on 21 May 2000.
May he pray for us, that the divisions of our world may be healed, and that there may be true peace. May God bless you.
