In these days of Eastertide, we are being taken through the last discourses of our Lord in the Upper Room. Today’s reading, set for the Gospel at Mass, is the supreme teaching, ‘I am the True Vine’, with the incomparable words ‘Abide in me, and I in you’. The English word ‘abide’ comes from an Old English word meaning to remain, wait, or dwell, but it also has the sense of enduring, sustaining, and staying firm. By grace, we stay firm in our Lord; but He also abides, stays firm, in us.

May we indeed abide in Him, as He abides in us, and may God bless you this day.
