‘…Dying, and behold we live; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything’. The first words of this extract from today’s New Testament reading, ‘Dying we Live’, formed the title of a remarkable collection of spiritual testimonies from those awaiting execution for resistance to the Nazi regime in Germany during the Second World War. It has seemed to many that their faith resembled in no small degree the faith of the early Christian martyrs.
Today, as many Christians, including priests and religious, are imprisoned and killed for the Faith, let us pray that they may be strengthened in their trial, and that their example may inspire us in our own walk of faith.
May God bless you this day.
