Today we commemorate that most precious of gifts, the holy Eucharist, first instituted in the Upper Room at Jerusalem by the Lord on the eve of His Passion.

St Augustine said, ‘You are what you receive by the grace which redeemed you’. The enormity of this statement can be lost in the simplicity of the wording, but it is true – for in this sacrament we do indeed participate in the Divine Life.
