Today’s Old Testament reading tells the story of God’s covenant with Abraham.
‘After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.” When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces [of the sacrifice]. On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram’.
Covenant after covenant followed with the people of God, until the New Covenant definitively established by our Lord in the sacrifice of the Eucharist, in which we share. May the life of the Sacrament be our life, our joy, our light, and may God bless you this day.
