The image below shows the ‘Sacro Speco’ or holy cave at Subiaco. It is the cave where the young St Benedict lived as a hermit in the early sixth century at the beginning of his monastic life. Here is the source and fount of the Benedictine way, from which Benedict himself would go out to found his first cenobitic monasteries.

As we give thanks for the great gift to the world that Benedict was, let us pray for the whole Benedictine family, ‘that in all things God may be glorified’ in every monastery and Benedictine soul. And may God bless you in your own way on this day.
