The Apostle Bartholomew (also identified with Nathanael in the Gospels) is said to have travelled to India and preached the Gospel there, leaving behind a copy of the Gospel of St Matthew, which was treasured there by Christians. His martyrdom is thought to have been in Armenia.

In St John’s Gospel, Nathanael has this dialogue with the Lord: ‘Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!” Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!’”

May he pray for us, and may God bless you this day.
