‘O Adonai, and leader of the House of Israel, who appeared to Moses in the fire of the burning bush and gave him the law on Sinai: Come and redeem us with an outstretched arm’.
The Name ‘Adonai’ is used to replace the letters of the true Name of God, which is too sacred to be spoken. Here in the icon, we see Moses gazing upon the Face of the Lord and taking off his sandal in reverence. The bush beside him burns, but is not burnt up.
May we gaze this day upon our Lord – represented for us in the crucifix, and may His eyes ‘imprint grace’ upon us, as St John of the Cross so beautifully expressed it. May God bless you.
