From today’s Gospel reading: ‘The next day he [John the Baptist] saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’”
‘Seeing’ is mentioned twice in this short quotation: first, John the Baptist ‘sees’ Jesus coming towards him; and then he himself says, ‘Behold’. Here, we are not talking about the kind of superficial seeing which merely rests upon an object and then passes on. Rather, the evangelist is drawing us into something deeper, a seeing with the eyes of the heart; a recognition that changes everything.
May we be drawn into that seeing, and gaze upon Him today with the eyes of our heart. May God bless you.
