‘Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And he fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterward he was hungry’.

As we’ve already noted in these postings, the ‘forty days’ of Jesus in the wilderness symbolise the ‘forty years’ of Israel in the wilderness. The image below is not of the Judaean desert, where Jesus would have gone, but of Egypt, close to the Red Sea, another site closely associated both with the Israelites’ crossing into freedom (the Exodus) and with Our Lord’s crossing of death into new life for us (His Exodus).

In these days, we pray that we may truly enter into the spirit of Jesus’ journey, and make it our own. May He bless you in all that you undertake for Him.
