From our Gospel reading for today: ‘Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened’.

The life of prayer consists precisely in this asking, seeking and knocking. The fourteenth century ‘Cloud of Unknowing’ expresses it this way: ‘Therefore, if thou wilt stand and not fall, cease never in thine intent: but beat evermore on this cloud of unknowing that is betwixt thee and thy God with a sharp dart of longing love, … and go not thence for anything that befalleth’.

May God bless you in your journey of prayer, and in all that you do for Him.
