The Gospel reading for today refers to the widow of Zarephath: Here is part of the Gospel: ‘In truth, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there came a great famine over all the land; and Elijah was sent to none of them but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow …”’
Here is part of the Elijah story: ‘Elijah said to her, “Fear not; go and do as you have said; but first make me a little cake … and bring it to me, and afterward make for yourself and your son. For thus says the Lord the God of Israel, ‘The jar of meal shall not be spent, and the cruse of oil shall not fail, until the day that the Lord sends rain upon the earth.’” And she went and did as Elijah said; and she, and he, and her household ate for many days. The jar of meal was not spent, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke by Elijah’.
May we learn to trust God for all our needs, and may He bless you this day.
