Wherever you may be who read this, know that your suffering is held in prayer to our Lord.
Here is the last verse of our Old Testament reading. It comes from Ezekiel: ‘And on the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither nor their fruit fail, but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing’.
This vision of the river of the water of life, flowing from the Temple, has its counterpart in the Book of Revelation: ‘Then he showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. There shall no more be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and his servants shall worship him; they shall see his face, and his name shall be on their foreheads’.
As we absorb this vision of ‘what shall be in the end, and shall not end’, let us place all our lives in the care of the Lamb of God, who will see us through every adversity. May God bless you.
