Today’s Gospel tells the story of the appearance of the Risen Lord to the disciples at Emmaus – and how ‘He was made known to them in the breaking of bread’.

St John Henry Newman calls our Lord ‘the true Bread of my soul’ – and this is true whether or not we are able, in these days of Eucharistic deprivation, to receive Him physically. We can spiritually ‘visit’ the tabernacle of our nearest Catholic Church, where the Real Presence remains, and keep Him company there, resting on His Heart as did John at the Last Supper.

May He bless you this day and draw close to you, wherever you may be.
