The last lines of today’s Gospel, from Matthew: ‘You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect’.
The word for ‘perfect’ is, in Greek, ‘teleios’, which means complete in terms of growth, maturity, mental or moral character. It’s the same word used by our Lord on the Cross when He said, ‘It is finished!’. His work was complete, perfect.
As we move in our own lives towards that completeness, we ask the grace of God, who alone can bring it about. May God bless all your efforts, and be close to you this day.
