Here is part of today’s New Testament reading, from Romans: ‘Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words. And he who searches the hearts of men knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God’.

In our journey of prayer, which will at times be a struggle, these words of St Paul can bring us hope and encouragement. In our weakness, there is help; and it is the help of the Holy Spirit, who is with us always as Advocate and Guide. ‘Come, Holy Spirit, and fill the hearts of your faithful people, and kindle in them the fire of your love’.

May the Holy Spirit bless you this day.
