The Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady is transferred to tomorrow, Sunday, this year. Here is the Gospel for today, from St Matthew: ‘Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people; but Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” And he laid his hands on them and went away’.
The simplicity, humility and directness of the child are seen in this quote from St Thérèse of Lisieux: ‘I have not the courage to force myself to seek beautiful prayers in books; not knowing which to choose I act as children do who cannot read; I say quite simply to the good God what I want to tell Him, and He always understands me’.
May we too learn these qualities, and relate to our Lord in simplicity and truth. May God bless you and may He feel very close to you this day.
