Here is a line from our Old Testament reading, from Isaiah: ‘Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near’. The impulse constantly to seek God is one of the signs of a true monastic vocation; so much so that it is included in the Holy Rule: ‘Let him examine whether the novice truly seeks God …’

The Psalmist expressed it well: ‘Thou hast said, “Seek ye my face.” My heart says to thee,
“Thy face, Lord, do I seek.” Hide not thy face from me’. Here in essence is the monastic way: to seek the Lord in all the different aspects and levels of the life: The Mass, the Divine Office, Lectio Divina, personal prayer, common life. He will indeed allow Himself to be found, for it is He who initiates the seeking.

May God bless you in all that you undertake this day.
