From today’s Gospel, from St Luke: ‘The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; nor will they say, “Lo, here it is!” or “There!” for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you’ – or, with the alternative reading, ‘within you’.
St Gregory of Nyssa wrote: ‘Or, perhaps, the kingdom of God being within us, means that joy that is implanted in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. For that is, as it were, the image and pledge of the everlasting joy with which in the world to come the souls of the Saints rejoice’.
Sometimes the kingdom of God is known by very tiny signs – but it is always marked by joy. May we know that joy of the Holy Spirit in our hearts as His kingdom, and may God bless you this day.
