‘For all that has been, Thanks! To all that shall be, Yes!’ – so wrote the late Swedish Secretary General of the United Nations, Dag Hammarskjöld in his journal, ‘Markings’. This year, we may think that there is not much to be thankful … but if we look, we may yet find glimmers of gold.
