This Sunday is also called ‘Laetare Sunday’, after the first words of the Introit of the Mass. These in turn are taken from Isaiah: ‘Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all you who love her; rejoice with her in joy, all you who mourn over her; that you may suck and be satisfied with her consoling breasts; that you may drink deeply with delight from the abundance of her glory’.
Jerusalem, in Scripture, is our Mother – and this leads us to another name for this day, i.e. ‘Mothering Sunday’. We give thanks for our Mothers, both biological and spiritual – and here in Community we give great thanks for our Mother, Mother Winsome. May she be greatly blessed in all that she undertakes in God’s name.
And may God bless you abundantly in your own life, and bring you much joy.
