From today’s Gospel reading, from St John: ‘Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the beach; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them, “Children, have you any fish?” They answered him, “No.” He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, for the quantity of fish. That disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!”’

Our Lord often goes unrecognised, as in this story – we ‘do not know’ that He is present. Yet, He is there, for there is no situation where He is not to be found. It took John, the Beloved Disciple, to recognise Him, for it was he who had rested on the breast of the Lord – in the ‘secret place of thunder’ – at the Last Supper. ‘It is the Lord!’ – may we cry this with all our hearts, in an outburst of Easter joy!

May God bless you and keep you safe this day.
