From today’s Gospel, from St John: ‘But when the Counsellor comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness to me …’

A remarkable Carmelite poet, Sr Miriam of the Holy Spirit, also known as Jessica Powers, wrote: ‘To live with the Spirit of God is to be a listener. / It is to keep the vigil of mystery, earthless and still. / One leans to catch the stirring of the Spirit, / strange as the wind’s will …’

May we indeed listen, in the depths of our hearts, to catch all the echoes of the wondrous Spirit of God, who is our Counsellor or Advocate in all.
