Here is part of the account of the day, from Acts: ‘When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance’.

Here, to go with it, is the first verse of the hymn, ‘Veni Creator Spiritus’: ‘Come, Holy Ghost, our souls inspire, / and lighten with celestial fire. / Thou the anointing Spirit art, / who dost thy sevenfold gifts impart’.

May we be filled today with the Holy Spirit, just as Our Lady and the Apostles were. In the painting below, the door of the room is open. Let us open the door of our own hearts, that we may be filled with grace and blessing this day.
