Here is the first verse of our Old Testament reading, from Genesis: ‘When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless’.

‘Blessed are the pure in heart’, said our Lord, ‘for they shall see God’. Abram saw God, who described Himself as ‘Almighty’, All-powerful. ‘Purity of heart’, said Kierkegaard, ‘is to will one thing’; to be undivided in heart and spirit, to be ‘blameless’.

May God give us the grace to attain to this purity of heart and life, and may God bless you this day.
