St Irenaeus is one of the Church Fathers, who met his death in the second century. There is evidence that, while still young, he met St Polycarp at Smyrna, thus maintaining a direct link with the Apostle John.

He wrote: ‘One should not seek among others the truth that can be easily gotten from the Church. For in her, as in a rich treasury, the apostles have placed all that pertains to truth, so that everyone can drink this beverage of life. She is the door of life’.

May St Irenaeus pray for us, in the theological and ethical challenges of our own time, and may God bless you.
