From today’s Gospel, from Matthew: ‘And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you’.
‘Peace’ is the Benedictine motto, and it will often adorn the entrance to the monastery, expressing the hope that all who enter will indeed find Christ’s peace there. What is this peace, this shalom? The word signifies wholeness, soundness, health, prosperity and safety. ‘Peace’ is also the greeting of the risen Lord to the disciples locked in the Upper Room for fear.
May we hear Christ’s word of Peace spoken in our own hearts, knowing that despite any failures of ours, He is always present. May God bless you this day.
