Here is today’s Gospel, from St Matthew: ‘At that time Jesus declared, “I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will. All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him’.

In these words, we gain an insight into the profound relationship between the Father and the Son, more usually associated with St John’s Gospel. But here it is, in all its depth.

St John of the Cross wrote: ‘As the lover in the beloved / each lived in the other, / and the Love that unites them / is one with them, / their equal, excellent as / the One and the Other: /
Three Persons, and one Beloved / among all three. / One love in them all / makes of them one Lover, / and the Lover is the Beloved / in whom each one lives. … Thus it is a boundless / Love that unites them, / for the three have one love / which is their essence; / and the more love is one / the more it is love’.

May that Love unite us all; and may God bless you this day.
