From our Old Testament reading, from the book of Exodus: ‘And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they had brought out of Egypt, for it was not leavened, because they were thrust out of Egypt and could not tarry, neither had they prepared for themselves any provisions’.

Here is the origin of our unleavened Eucharistic bread, for we are the spiritual descendants of those early Israelites, through the Passover meal celebrated by the Lord as the Last Supper.

May our love and wonder at the gift of the Eucharist, the Holy Bread of Eternal Life, deepen with the passing of each day, and may God bless you in this and in all aspects of your daily life.
