The sixteenth century St Margaret Clitherow belongs to York, and her Shrine in the Shambles is looked after by the Oratorian Fathers. She was betrayed for having Mass celebrated in her home and for other Catholic activities, illegal at the time. She refused to plead, and so was sentenced to death by crushing. She died on 25 March 1586, a day which in that year was Good Friday as well as the Feast of the Annunciation.

May she pray for us, and may God bless you this day.
