St Jerome’s rapport with creatures of the wild – especially lions – shows us how, in the lives of holy men and women, paradise relationships are restored, and among them communion with the animals and birds of God’s creation.

St Jerome is also familiar to us for his translation of the Old Testament into Latin from Hebrew, the first of its kind – the translation we know as the Vulgate.

On his day, we pray that our understanding of Sacred Scripture may constantly be deepened, and our relationship with Our Lord changed as a result. May St Jerome pray for us in this, and may God bless you this day.
