From today’s Gospel reading, from St Mark: ‘Whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many’.
This reading continues a theme from the Fourth Servant Song of Isaiah, part of which we have for our Old Testament reading today: ‘By his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous; and he shall bear their iniquities’.
It is through the Son of man, Our Lord, giving His life as a ransom for many, that our iniquities are borne. We sing in the Agnus Dei at Mass that the Lamb of God takes away the sins of the world. May we truly trust this truth, and live by it, and may God bless you this day.
