From our New Testament reading, from Romans: ‘Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbour has fulfilled the law’.
The Apostle John wrote: ‘He who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should love his brother also’.
St Benedict picks this up in the Holy Rule, ‘The Tools of Good Works’: ‘In the first place, to love the Lord God with all one’s heart, all one’s soul and all one’s strength. Then, one’s neighbour as oneself’.
Here is a challenge for us all today … in the power and grace of the Holy Spirit, may we rise to meet it, and so make our world a better place. May God bless you.
