There are few words of Our Lady recorded in Sacred Scripture, but her silence is as eloquent as are her words. Although she speaks when Jesus is found in the Temple at the age of twelve, having disappeared for three days, the ‘Hidden Years’ remain hidden. Her silence at the foot of the Cross is a lesson to us all – to remain quietly present to acute suffering and death, fully surrendered to the will of God.

As we repeat her ‘Fiat’ – ‘Behold I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word’ – may our own lives reflect that same spirit of surrender to the will of God, and may He bless us this day.
