Today we remember the long suffering and martyrdoms of Vietnamese Christians. Among them, between 130,000 and 300,000 Catholics were martyred between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries.
Here is the Mass Collect for the day: ‘O God, source and origin of all fatherhood, who kept the Martyrs Saint Andrew Dung-Lac and his companions faithful to the Cross of your Son,
even to the shedding of their blood, grant, through their intercession, that, spreading your love among our brothers and sisters, we may be your children both in name and in truth. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever’.
We also give thanks for those Vietnamese priests and faithful, who, building on the foundation of their ancestors in the Faith who gave their lives even unto death, enrich the Church by their witness in ways which cannot be measured. May St Andrew Dung-Lac and all the Vietnamese martyrs pray for us this day, and may God bless you.
