‘O Dayspring, Brightness of Light everlasting, and Sun of Righteousness: Come and enlighten him that sitteth in darkness, and the shadow of death’. The antiphon draws on the prophecy of Malachi: ‘For you who fear my name the Sun of Righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings’.
In this deepest darkness of the northern winter, let us turn with all our being to the Light. As St John put it: ‘The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. … The true light that enlightens every man was coming into the world’.
May God’s Light and Love enter your heart this day, transforming you more and more into His Light, and may God bless you.
