Here is St Luke’s account of the Lord’ Baptism: ‘Now when all the people were baptised, and when Jesus also had been baptised and was praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form, as a dove, and a voice came from heaven, “Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased.”’
The text can also read, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved’. Here, to go with it, is a verse from Isaiah 42: ‘Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him, he will bring forth justice to the nations’.
All of who have been baptised are beloved and chosen of God, known by Him from all eternity. May we trust and grow in this love and may God bless you this day.
