Today’s Gospel gives us the miracle at Cana, when Jesus changed the water into wine. Two things stand out from this passage.

Firstly, Mary doesn’t tell Jesus what to do – she simply says, ‘They have no wine’. Here is the supreme model for intercession – to make the people, or the situation, known to God – He already knows, but waits for our request, so that He may work with us.

Secondly, the command to the servants: ‘Fill the water pots up to the brim’. Not halfway up, but right to the top. It means that we are invited to give ourselves wholly, fully, to the purposes of God – not half-heartedly.

Perhaps, today, we can make a resolution to do just this, and may God bless you in it. Great results can come from small beginnings, consecrated in love.
