From the Book of Job: ‘For there is hope for a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its shoots will not cease. Though its root grow old in the earth, and its stump die in the ground, yet at the scent of water it will bud and put forth branches like a young plant’.

There is more than a hint of resurrection in this passage. But, time is of the essence; the new life has its own momentum, its own ‘kairos’ or time of opportunity. In this time of pandemic, when the ‘death’ of all that was once normal is all around us, it can be helpful to tune the ear of our heart, to listen for whispers of new beginnings. God is the God of new things and He will not fail us.

May God bless you this day.
