Today is also the feast of St Blaise, the Bishop and Martyr of Sebaste in Armenia. Before his death he is said to have healed a boy who was choking. He has been venerated since the eighth century, and has a special association with diseases of the throat. So, today, in Catholic churches and chapels, including our own, we have the opportunity to seek his intercession. This is the prayer that is traditionally prayed: ‘Through the intercession of Saint Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from every disease of the throat and from every other illness: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit’.

Especially in this time of pandemic, his intercession is needed. May he indeed pray for us, and may God bless you this day.
