Here is part of the prophet Daniel’s prayer of repentance, which is our Old Testament reading: ‘I prayed to the Lord my God and made confession, saying, “O Lord, the great and terrible God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from thy commandments and ordinances; we have not listened to thy servants the prophets, who spoke in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. … To us, O Lord, belongs confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee. To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness; because we have rebelled against him …’

There is much we can and should ask forgiveness for, both corporately and individually. Here in Lent is our special opportunity to be restored to a right relationship with our loving God. May we heed His voice in our lives, the gentle whisper of His love, calling us back.

May God bless you this day.
