Here is part of Isaiah’s tremendous vision of what will be, which is given as our Old Testament reading today: ‘For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. But be glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and be glad in my people; no more shall be heard in it the sound of weeping and the cry of distress …’

In these days, when war and conflict, and the suffering they induce, are constantly in our minds, we do well to hold also in our minds the vision of the ‘new heavens and the new earth’ of Isaiah. God is faithful, and never forgets a promise He has made – in this case, peace and newness of life. It may be a long time coming, but come it will.

May God bless you in these days, and keep you close to Himself.
