‘I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter’. These words come from the prophet Jeremiah, in our Old Testament reading. Here is its counterpart, from Isaiah: ‘Like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth’.

Before Pontius Pilate, Jesus was silent. That silence is one of the most eloquent in all Christian history. It is filled with abandonment to the will of the Father. That abandonment to the will of God is also that to which we are invited. May we take it up, and know our true happiness and freedom. May God bless you.
