Here is part of today’s Gospel reading, from St John again; ‘He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth belongs to the earth, and of the earth he speaks; he who comes from heaven is above all. He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony; he who receives his testimony sets his seal to this, that God is true’.

‘God is true’. Pontius Pilate will later ask, ‘What is truth?’ As St John expressed it: ‘Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice.” Pilate said to him, “What is truth?”

In these times when everything is relative, and ‘truth’ is deemed to be ‘what I believe at the moment’, it is salutary to hear these firm words coming from the One who said, ‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life’. We can trust Him utterly.

May God bless you in these days, and may you be led more deeply into the truth of Christ.
