‘If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him’. These words are from St John, our Gospel reading today.

St John was later to write: ‘See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; it does not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is’.

The tabernacle of our heart is the dwelling place of God, placed there irrevocably in our Baptism. Our Lord is at home there, He belongs there, as does His Father, and the Holy Spirit through Whom it all comes about. This is the newness of life of which we heard in the reading yesterday. It is eternal life.

May this life take root in us ever more deeply, and may God bless us with His love this day.
