Today is also the Optional Memoria of Saints Dunstan, Ethelwold and Oswald, Bishops. St Ethelwold was a tenth century Bishop of Winchester. He laboured with Saints Dunstan and Oswald for the revival of English monastic life, and it is thought that the Regularis Concordia, which brought together the various monastic rules into a single document, was his work. But we also owe to him the translation of the Rule of St Benedict into the English of his time, a major feat.

As we give thanks for his life, let us ask his intercession for us, and pray for monastic life in this country. May God bless you this day.
